xGem® is a wireless unit developed by Ausy Srl that allows remote monitoring of cathodic protection systems, widely used to protect underground pipelines used in oil and gas distribution networks.

It houses a set of custom-shaped photovoltaic modules developed by Ribes Tech, integrated on both top and lateral surfaces of the enclosure. The photovoltaic films ensure the unit energy independence avoiding battery replacement over its lifecycle and thus reducing the overall solution cost. Energy is efficiently harvested by the PV modules in a wide range of illuminances (down to 1000 lux and up to full sunlight).

The custom-shaped PV films developed by Ribes Tech allowed to exploit all the available surfaces of the unit to harvest energy with no need to give up design and appealing form factors.
